21 Club
Jack Kriendler and Charlie
Berns' '21' Club was one of the most famous speakeasies of the
Prohibition Era, attracting the cream of New York society. After the
repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the scene was set for '21's founders to
build on the speakeasy's reputation among the rich and fashionable,
and create the city's most sought after restaurant and bar.
During the 30's and 40's '21'
expanded to include the two adjacent townhouses, and became an elegant
home away from home for writers, artists, movie stars and socialites.
John Steinbeck, Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, Joan Crawford and
Cary Grant were just a few of the luminaries who made it their
rendezvous of choice.
Today, '21' retains all of
the features which made it famous ... the facade with its famous
'jockey' hitching posts ... the discreet but attentive service ... the
superb American cuisine and incomparable wine cellar. Under the
ownership of Orient-Express Hotels, Inc., the company that relaunched
the legendary Venice-Simplon Orient-Express, it is still the favored
meeting place of the distinguished and the celebrated, including
leading names from the worlds of business, finance, and the arts.
'21's impeccable reputation
for intimacy and service makes it a favorite setting for dinners and
celebrations, as well as receptions, meetings, product launches and
business events. In addition to our a la carte dining room, we are
pleased to offer the services of our private dining rooms. With ten
private rooms of various sizes, '21' offers accommodations suitable
for events large and small, from an intimate dinner to a lavish
reception. |
